So what's the explorer's club you ask... well its like this the Twin and the C-Bug and I used to go to Pagan Night Out each month. It was something that we did too get out of the house at least once a month and have some fun stuff like that, try to be with some like minded people. However the problem happened when the person who had been running it decided to stop running it and it changed hands. Now don't get me wrong, its not that I don't like the people who are running it now. I do they are very fun people. Plus I had made some very cool friends there, but things change and one of the biggest changes happened to be the change of venue. When they moved it to even further from the house and to a place where both my Twin and I do not like we had to seriously think about if we wanted to continue to go. Another problem that we had was that it was very select, click-ish in how people interacted. After the Fest I was part of the largest group but that doesn't change how we had been treated prior to the fest. There were nights we showed up and didn't have a table to eat on due to them grabbing all of the tables and putting them together for their group and leaving nothing available for anyone else. With all of this to consider we talked about it and we talked with a friend who we shared PNO with and we all came to the same conclusion. We did not want to move with them, nor did we want to continue going to the same bar & grille that we had been. We wanted to do something different. So we came up with the Explorer's Club. Once a month, usually on the second Tues. of every month, but hey we are flexible (another advantage that we have over PNO) we will go out and we will pick a new place each month to try. Its basically in some cases following through on the places either dinners or other such places that you go past and think to yourself "hey that looks like it could be good, I need to remember to try that" or something like that, and yet whenever you go to go out to dinner or lunch, whatever you usually go to like the same 4-5 places that you are familiar with. Or maybe you think "hm, Indian cuisine... I wonder what that is like, or Thai, or _________" Insert cuisine type there, yet you just don't exactly get around to it for whatever reason. Well that is exactly what we are doing in the Explorer's Club. Tonight was our maiden voyage so to speak... we came up with some guidelines (nope not rules) and also decided that we may have a my space place or maybe something like pro boards or some such and we will have reviews on all of the places we go to along with info so that people who are interested can join us if they would like to. Its not an exclusive kind of thing. Our only guidelines are pretty simple: The Only Rule is The Golden Rule! Have FUN & BE NICE!
Try and go to places that are not familiar to everyone or even to a majority of the people. If people have been to the place we are going make sure its somewhere that they haven't been to very often (Basically we don't go places where someone knows the menu without having to see it or knows everyone working there by name etc.). No fast food places or Denny's kind of places. If it is a kind of cuisine that no one is familiar with try and talk over food picks so everyone order's something different and share. (Be it a taste or be it everyone ordering something different and everybody getting a little of each person's order to make "one" distinct meal , however it happens to work best but be flexible and share so everyone gets a little something new). Pay your own way and if its all going to be on one check work it out before hand if possible! Lets try not to confuse the poor cashier to much Help each other out... in other words if the server misses something (I.e. tonight they missed someone's drink and there was a problem flagging them down again to ask for it, instead of leaving it all up to that person I spoke up as soon as the server was close to me...) Leave personal nuts at home! Its not why we are here! Before we meet up for the monthly outing each person (as we are so small currently this is still workable if we grow it is open to change) should have at least one new place to contribute as a possible option for our "meeting" place. If it is someplace that you aren't sure if it will fit into the requirements like price range or suitability for kids etc. If possible check it out before hand, basically recon the place before recommending it, see if they have a menu or what not if possible. Do what you can especially if it is someplace you really want to go. (Besides if you really want to go there then you won't mind doing a little bit of leg work!) Because if we get to a place and we either don't like the look of it (for example it looks dirty or like someplace you wouldn't want your teen-aged kid to be) or the prices are way overboard then we will go on to plan B. Once we get more people we will have to set up communication for things like that but hey for now we all fit into one vehicle... Make sure the place is something new. (This is a basic guideline as there are only so many kinds of cuisine and such besides there are only so many times you want to go have something unusual before you decide you want to have some familiar foods. Even then yeah they can do all kinds of entertaining things with even a burger look at Gunther's but still gets old after a bit> hence why this is a very flexible guideline only!) Try to make sure its more Grille than Bar, in the Bar and Grille kind of places. No fast Food! Have Fun & Be nice, that isn't just to the server's either that is most importantly to each other. Communicate so we all know what is going on. If it works better on another Tues. or heck even another night we can try and do that! Hence the whole communicate thing...
